History

Thai Lion Air is the result of an agreement between the Indonesian low-cost carrier, Lion Air, and its partner in Thailand. It was meant to be an extension of the airline in other countries outside Indonesia. The airline, which uses "Freedom to Fly" as a slogan, operated for the first time with a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on December 4 2013. The next day, it started its full service. Not longer than a week later, Thai Lion Air signed an agreement with Malindo Air allowing the airline to serve the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) - Bangkok routes. When it started, the airline used the Don Mueang International Airport as their first hub, flying domestic flights to Chiang Mai. It then opened the second hub in the Hat Yai International Airport, adding more routes both in and outside of the TH. In Thailand, the flights are from both Don Mueang and Hat Yai to Chiang Mai International Airport, Hua Hin Airport, and Surat Thani Airport. Internationally, the airline serves routes to two countries: Indonesia and Malaysia. Currently, the airline serves more destinations than before, flying to more cities in Thailand and cities in countries across Asia and Southeast Asia.
