Baggage

Cabin Baggage

Tiger Australia allows you to bring one main item and one small item as cabin baggage when you travel within the weight and dimension limits below:

  • 2 (two) bags not exceeding a combined weight of 7kg (or 12kg if cabin has been purchased).
  • Main item must not exceed the below dimensions.

    • Height – 54cm
    • Width – 38cm
    • Depth – 23cm
  • The secondary small item that can be taken on board may be one of the following:

    • Handbag/purse
    • Coat
    • Book
    • Tablet or similar size device
    • Umbrella

Weight allowances

Passengers may bring two pieces of cabin baggage with a total combined weight of 7kgs.

Any cabin baggage that does not meet the above requirements will need to be checked in accordingly and airport baggage charges will apply.

Check-in Baggage

To offer better value and more choice, both Light Fares and Express Fares do not include check-in baggage. At the time of making your booking you will have the choice to add check-in baggage for each customer on the booking. Check-in baggage can be selected per customer per flight and different weight allowances are available. All pricing will be presented to you when making your selection for

Web Check-in enables customers to do online check-in for their tigerair flight.

Web Check-in is available from 72 hours (3 days) to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time of your flight.

Passengers who have pre booked emergency exit row seats, passengers with special needs and passengers travelling with infants are unable to use Web Check-in. Please check in at the airport.

History

Tigerair Australia operating domestic flights in Australia on 23 November 2007 from its home base in Melbourne, Victoria. The airline opened a second base in Sydney in July 2012 and a third base in Brisbane in March 2014.

In October 2012, Virgin Australia Holdings announced its intention to purchase 60% of Tiger Airways Australia from parent company Tiger Airways Holdings.

In July 2013, the airline re-branded to tigerair australia and the joint venture between Tiger Airways Holdings and the Virgin Australia Group was launched, with Virgin Australia acquiring 60% of tigerair australia. These two milestones signalled a new era for tigerair in australia. In February 2015, the Virgin Australia Group completed the acquisition of the remaining 40% and tigerair australia is now a fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia Holdings.

In August 2015, tigerair australia announced new international services from Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide to Bali commencing 23 March 2016. tigerair australia will use operate the flights using three newly reconfigured Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

tigerair australia is a low cost carrier which operates 14 A320 aircraft domestically across 18 routes and to 11 destinations around Australia.
New international services from Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide to Bali commence March 2016 and are on sale now.

Tiger Airways Australia Pty Ltd, operating as Tigerair Australia, is an Australian low-cost airline. Tiger Airways (Australia Pty Limited) It is a fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia Holdings and commenced operating domestic flights in Australia on 23 November 2007 from its home base in Melbourne, Victoria.

On 7 March 2012, Tigerair announced that it will reopen a second base at Sydney Airport and on 4 September 2012 announced they were resuming flights from Melbourne to Adelaide, beginning from 1 November 2012.

On 18 December 2012 Tigerair Australia began direct return flights from Mackay to Melbourne and Mackay to Sydney and 22 October 2012 CASA announced they were issuing a new safety certificate and lifting all restrictions placed on Tigerair Australia, as they were now satisfied they were no longer needed. On 17 October 2014, Virgin Australia Holdings announced it would purchase the remaining 40% stake in the airline for A$1, taking full ownership.
