Tiger Air History

On December 15, the agreement on the joint venture was signed by China Airlines and Tigerair. Tigerair Taiwan will be based in Taiwan and preparations for the formation of the new airline will immediately get underway in accordance with the regulations of the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA). Tigerair Taiwan will have a capitalization of NTD 2 billion with China Airlines Group holding a 90% stake and Tigerair 10%. The network will cover major destinations in Northeast and Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, China and Taiwan.

On 16 December 2013, China Airlines entry into the Budget Carrier/Low Cost Carrier (LCC) market, China Airlines and Tigerair, the largest budget carrier in Singapore, have entered into a joint venture to set up Tigerair Taiwan.

The new LCC operations at the end of 2014 and provide passengers with another air travel option. Travelers flying with the LCC will not only enjoy low prices but can also purchase tickets and make reservations online. Travelers can also enjoy the value-added services they need such as check-in luggage and in-flight meals.

The partnership between China Airlines and Tigerair will not only offer tangible returns on investment but also produce intangible benefits through the sharing of experience. The essence of LCC operations can be mastered and its strengths injected into China Airlines to boost group synergies

Tiger Air Check-In

Present relevant travel documents :

Passengers are required to show their booking confirmation, valid passport (for international flights) or photo ID (for domestic flights), with any necessary visas at check-in. Please note that failure to produce any of the above documents may result to immigration authorities refusing travel.

Check-in timing :

Tigerair recommends that passengers check -in 2 (two) hours prior to scheduled departure.

Check-in counters strictly close 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure time. For all flights departing Dhaka and India only, check-in opens 3 hours prior to departure and closes 1 hour before departure.

Any passenger not having completed check-in formalities and be in receipt of a boarding card within the above timeline will forfeit their seat and no compensation will be given.

Passengers with special requirements :

Passengers with special requirements (e.g. bicycle to check-in) or have special needs are advised to check-in 2 (two) hours prior to departure and make themselves known at the designated check-in counters.

Cabin Baggage

Passengers are allowed 2 pieces of carry-on luggage provided that each item does not exceed the dimensions of 54 cm x 38 cm x 23 cm, with a combined weight of 10kg.

Luggage Upsize™

Passengers are offered the choice to save if they choose to travel with hand luggage only. Passengers who need to check baggage in have the option of selecting a Luggage Upsize™ option to suit their needs at the time of making their reservation. A corresponding fee will be charged per passenger per one way flight. This excludes, but is not limited to items such as sporting equipment.

At the time of booking, select the Luggage Upsize™ option for each passenger in your party who wants to upsize. The amount displayed will be added to your total flight purchase price. If you require a different upsize option for the return sector, please book your flight sectors individually and purchase the appropriate Luggage Upsize™ for each sector.

Passengers who have not pre-booked Luggage Upsize™ online at the time of booking have the option of doing so by calling the call centre up to 4 hours prior to departure. Passengers who do not exercise this option up to 4 hours prior to departure can still do so at the airport on the day of departure but will be limited to purchase only the 15kg baggage tier. Additional weight in excess of 15kg will be subjected to the prevailing excess baggage charges.

Passengers who pay the Luggage Upsize ™ fee at the time of booking or up to 4 hours before departure are not entitled to a refund of the fee in the event that they do not travel or do not carry the upsized luggage allowance of checked-in luggage.

Any excess over the Luggage Upsize™ option selected; will be charged per kilo at the prevailing rates in the common currency of the departure airport.

Tiger Air Fare Rules

Taxes and Charges

This is the portion of the total airfare above the base fare that is payable by each passenger. It is calculated by reference to the applicable Government taxes and airport charges that are payable by Tigerair in respect of passengers being carried on a particular route together with any administrative or other fees imposed by the airline.

Government Tax
This is a governmental departure or arrival tax which is collected by the airline and payable to the relevant governmental authorities. These taxes vary from country to country and in some cases are collected locally on departure and not by the airline.

Passenger Service Charge
This is the charge made by the airport authorities to the airlines for use of the terminal, runway, emergency services, security facilities etc. GST or VAT is currently charged at 0% on fares or fees relating to International journeys. For flights wholly within Domestic Australia, GST applies. Please note that all reference to fees in A$ in this Help section includes GST for Domestic Flights within Australia, whereas all fees quoted in S$ are without GST for International journeys.

The amounts are provided for guidance only and we reserve the right to amend our fees at any time.

Fare Rules

TR flights are operated by Tigerair Singapore
TT flights are operated by Tigerair Australia

Fares quoted are per person per one way journey. All fares are subject to change until payment is made in full and all seats are subject to availability.

Open-dated or open-ended tickets are not allowed. Tickets are valid for 1 (one) year from the date of issue of the ticket.

Fares quoted are subject to airport taxes and other prevailing charges, unless already included in the fare.

Fares, taxes and charges may fluctuate based on prevailing currency exchange rates.

Fares and charges are strictly non-refundable. Passengers who do not arrive for their flight before the stipulated check in deadline will not be allowed to board the aircraft and all monies will be forfeited.

Flight dates, times, routes may be changed up to four (4) hours prior to scheduled departure subject to a change fees and any applicable fare difference. No refund for changes will be available should the fare be lower at the time of change.

Name changes are allowed subject to a change fee per flight plus any fare difference at the time of change. This is only available via the Call Centres at least (4) hours before the scheduled departure time. No refund for changes will be available should the fare be lower at the time of change.

If a reservation is not amended at least 4 (four) hours prior to scheduled departure, all monies associated with the booking are forfeited.

Infants under two (2) years of age at the time of travel that do not occupy an aircraft seat are charged an infant fee at the prevailing rates per sector; baggage allowance and payment of taxes & charges are not applicable .Only one infant per adult over 18 years of age will be permitted to travel.

Children between (2) and (12) years of age pay 100% of the adult fare.

All passengers who have purchased a Flight Combination will be required to clear customs and immigration where applicable and reclaim any baggage and then check-in for their onward flight. Please allow at least 3 (three) hours to complete this process.

Changes cannot be made to any part of a flight combination journey once the departure of the first flight has passed. Any unutilised portion of a flight combination is non-refundable or transferable.

No stopovers are allowed on any flight combination fare. A stopover is defined as a period of more than 24 hours in the connecting city and/or country.

All travel is subject to the Carrier's Conditions of carriage.

Refunds and Cancellations

Tigerair operates a no refund policy and as such it is unable to refund any tickets (fares and charges) where the passenger decides they no longer have a requirement to fly or is unable to travel, as a result of any change in personal circumstances, including but not limited to medical grounds. Individual or Personal Travel Insurance is recommended for all passengers to cover such cancellations.

Should a passenger decide they no longer wish to travel they are entitled to apply for a refund of the Government Passenger Services Tax and other government taxes paid. However, Tigerair will apply a S$50.00 or A$50.00 (for Australia domestic flights) administration fee (or local equivalent) per passenger per sector to cover the cost of processing and bank charges for each tax refund request.

In the event of the death of a passenger prior to the scheduled departure time of their flight. Tigerair will refund the reservation following receipt of a copy of the death certificate.

Changing a Booking

All reservations on Tigerair can be changed subject to the following conditions.

International/domestic flights

Flight dates, times and routes are changeable subject to availability and upon payment of a change fee on a per flight sector, per person, plus any additional cost between the original total price paid and the lowest total price available for the new flight at the time the change is made. If the total price is lower on the new flight, no refund will be made.

Changes, subject to availability, can be made up to 4 (four) hours prior to the scheduled departure time of your outbound journey on www.tigerair.com or the Tigerair call centre (subject to centre opening hours). Changes are not confirmed until a new itinerary is issued to you. Click here for details of the fees payable.

No changes can be made to any reservation within 4 (four) hours of the original scheduled departure time and/or BEYOND one (1) year from date of purchase.

At the ticket counter in Singapore, Phuket, Clark, Macau, Perth, Ho Chi Minh City, Guangzhou, Haikou, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur and all Australia domestic
Via participating local travel agents
Changes may not be permitted on selected promotional fares.

Flight cancellations and schedule changes

In the event that your Tigerair flight is cancelled we will reschedule you on the next available Tigerair flight, free of charge.

Tigerair does not compensate, reimburse or provide tickets for travel on other airlines and takes no responsibility whatsoever should a cancellation cause you to miss a connection to another flight.

If your flight is rescheduled before the date of travel, and departs more than 4 (four) hours before or after the original departure time, then you will be entitled to a travel credit or full refund of the unused part of your reservation if the alternative flight/s offered are not acceptable to you and you do not wish to travel. This is provided you notify Tigerair more than 4 (four) hours prior to the scheduled departure time of your flight.

We recommend that all passengers ensure that they have suitable private travel insurance cover in force to cover such eventualities.

Passengers who book well in advance should check their outward/return flight timings between 24 and 72 hours prior to departure by using the "Manage my booking" section on the Tigerair website or by calling the Tigerair call centre.

Changes to your reservation will be communicated via email. It is the passenger's responsibility to ensure the email address provided is current and accessed frequently. Tigerair takes no responsibility in the event that emails advising of changes to bookings are not accessed.

In the event of an ad-hoc flight delay or schedule change, where the delay or schedule change is less than 4 (four) hours, Tigerair will not give prior warning to passengers. For any ad-hoc delay or schedule change greater than 4 (four) hours every effort will be taken to contact passengers via the telephone number or email address provided at the time of making the reservation.

Standby and waitlist

Tigerair does not operate a standby or waitlist policy. All reservations must be confirmed at least 4 (four) hours prior to the Scheduled Departure Time.

Connections

Tigerair is strictly a 'point-to-point' airline. We therefore do not offer and cannot facilitate, the transfer of passengers or their baggage to other flights, whether operated by Tigerair or other airlines.

All rail and coach transfers detailed on www.tigerair.com or promoted by Tigerair are operated independently of the airline and connections cannot be guaranteed.

Tigerair is not responsible for late, cancelled or incorrectly featured transfer information.

All passengers will be required to clear Immigration/Customs where applicable and collect their baggage upon arrival of their Tigerair flight. No transfers using 'Airside' facilities will be permitted.
