Rich in original character and traditional charm, this cosy 19th-century country inn offers good beers, great-value food and comfortable en suite rooms in the converted former stable block. Originally built in 1866, the Duke of Wellington was once a working farm and an inn for drovers. Traditionally built from Derbyshire limestone, the pub has a slate roof, roaring log fires and extensive gardens. Free wireless internet access is available in the bar. There are 9 en suite rooms in the beautifully converted stable block. Set away from the main building, the rooms offer comfort and privacy. The stable block has its own flagstone courtyard and free private parking is available on site. All rooms have TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. Recently redecorated in a traditional country style, the inn boasts extensive floral gardens with comfortable seating areas. There is also a fully enclosed and heated patio area, overlooking Riber Castle and the Derwent Valley.

Guests can also make use of the nearby boating lake and park. Gullivers Kingdom is just a 10-minute drive, while Bakewell and Chatsworth House can be reached within 14 minutes by car. Buxton and Castleton are a 35 minute drive from the property. The nearest airport is East Midlands Airport, 36 miles from Slayleigh B&B, Matlock. Guests may be able to hire the hot tub at an additional cost dependent on availability. This charming property offers elegant, individually, decorated ensuite rooms in keeping with its Grade Il listing and most of which overlook the River Derwent. Breakfast is cooked to order and served in the dining room with crisp table linen, fresh flowers and antique lighting. There is a cosy lounge for guests to enjoy serving bottled local beer, wine, snacks, sourdough pizza, tea, barista coffee and homemade cakes etc, available when the Hotels Cave Cafe is open. Times vary seasonally, Thursday-Sunday from 10am Stepping outside, you are immediately spoilt for choice of things to see and do. The Peak District Mining Museum, Mini Aquarium and 'Lovers Walk' just a few of Matlock Baths attractions. A short walk along the river leads to Matlock Bath railway station. Stroll along a leisurely 2miles further to Matlock town with its lively centre of shops, restaurants, bars and park. Other information: As this property is 250 years old and Grade Il listed, bedrooms are spread over three floors. There is not a lift, therefore unsuitable for some guests. There is free parking of one car per room. This is situated up a steep hill to the side of the property. The hotel front door is locked at 6pm each evening. Guests are provided with their personal entry key to enable them to come and go freely during their stay.
