24 Sept 1946 Cathay Pasific was founded by Sydney H. de Kantzow and Roy C. Farrell.
1959 Cathay Pacific was flying to Japan, Taiwan and Australia
1964 The first jets were introduced, Convair 880.
1970s Cathay Pacific installed a computerised reservation system and flight simulators.
1979 Cathay Pacific acquired its first Boeing 747 and applied for traffic rights to begin flying to London in 1980.
1980 Cathay Pacific expanded its international network to include London, Brisbane, Frankfurt, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Rome, San Francisco, Paris, Zurich and Manchester.
1981 Cathay Pacific carried over three million passengers and 97 million kilos of cargo to 23 destinations.
1986 Cathay Pacific carried nearly 4.2 million passengers and 182 million kilos of cargo on its way to becoming a beneficiary of the economic boom then developing in the Asian Pacific region.
1999 Cathay Pacific became a oneworld alliance's founding members.
19 May 2000 The airline operated the first commercial nonstop transpolar flight from Canada, with Cathay Pacific Flight 829 from Toronto to Hong Kong.
2002 Cathay Pacific is a founding member of the Oneworld Alliance
28 November 2002 Cathay Pacific took delivery of its first Airbus A340-600 aircraft at a ceremony at the Airbus factory in Toulouse.
2005 Cathay Pacific won the "Airline of the Year" award by SkyTrax Awards. The following year we were named "Airline of the Year 2006" by Air Transport World magazine.
2006 Cathay Pacific celebrate its 60th anniversary - and announced a development that would secure a brighter future for the Cathay Pacific Group and the Hong Kong hub as a whole.
28 Sept 2006 Cathay Pacific signed an agreement that brought Dragonair into the Cathay Pacific Group as a wholly owned subsidiary.
2010 Cathay Pacific, together with Dragonair (rebranded Cathay Dragon), carried nearly 27 million passengers and over 1.8 million tons of cargo and mail.
Cathay Pacific became the world's largest international cargo airline, along with main hub Hong Kong International Airport as the world's busiest airport in terms of cargo traffic.
2011 Cathay Pacific held on to the title of Best Frequent Flyer Programme with Asia Miles while bagging Best Airport Lounge in Asia-Pacific.
2012 The Cathay Pacific fleet is being significantly modernised with a total of 30 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft set to arrive.
2013 Cathay Pacific announced that it will add a fourth daily direct flight from Los Angeles to Hong Kong on June of 2014 and three additional direct flights from Chicago to Hong Kong on August of 2014, bringing the number of flights from 10 per week.
2014 Cathay Pacific was voted Best Airline in Asia and for the fourth time, World's Best Airline at the annual SkyTrax awards.
January 2016 Cathay Pacific announced it was rebranding Dragonair as Cathay Dragon.
28 October 2016 Cathay Pacific has become the first international airline to operate the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 to New Zealand as Flight CX197 arrived in Auckland after making its overnight journey from Hong Kong.
27 March 2017 Cathay Pacific signed a co-operation agreement with the Lufthansa Group that will see the airline codeshare on flights operated by Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines.
6 April 2017 Cathay Pacific announced that its current four-times-weekly Hong Kong to Manchester service will become a daily operation from 1 December 2017.
31 August 2017 From Summer 2018, Cathay Pacific will launched pioneering non-stop routes linking Hongkong with Brussels, Dublin, and Copenhagen.
1 November 2017 Cathay Pacific announced it will commence a new four-times-weekly service between Hongkong and Nanning in Guangxi, beginning 8 January 2018.

Company Profile

On 24 September, 1946 American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow founded Cathay Pacific Airways. Initially based in Shanghai, the two men eventually moved to Hong Kong and established the airline. Legend has it that Farrell and a group of foreign correspondents thought up the airline's unique name.

The airlines began operate passenger flights to Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai. Expansion fast enough and, in 1948, one of Hong Kong's leading trading companies, The Swire Group (Butterfield & Swire) took a 45% share in the company. Under the leadership of John Kidston Swire and Butterfield & Swire became wholly responsible for the management of the airline.

Business grew at an average rate of 20 percent a year between 1962 and 1967. Cathay Pacific also initiated international services (another world's first) to Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagoya in Japan.
