An infant is entitled to one piece of baggage, where the sum of the length, width and height does not exceed 158cm (62 inches). You can also check in a fully collapsible stroller or pushchair and carry-cot or car seat for free.
In line with local Occupational Health and Safety rules, each of your checked bags cannot exceed 32kg.
You’ll be required to repack your baggage if it exceeds 32kg. If you wish to transport a bag that is more than 32kg in weight, please contact Local Singapore Airlines Office

You may carry ONE these items with you on singapore Airlines flights, free of charge, in addition to your cabin baggage allowance (subject to country restrictions, where applicable):

- Infant’s amenities and food for consumption on board. The total weight of these items should not exceed 6kg

- The maximum dimensions for these bags are 40x30x10cm each. If your item exceeds the total dimension of 80cm (the length, width and height combined), it will be counted as part of your standard cabin baggage allowance. You will then be required to check in either your cabin bag or the additional item.
Baggage will carry out checked on flights at check-in and prior to boarding. At check-in, cabin baggage that exceeds the allowed limits must be checked in. Prior to boarding, cabin baggage that exceeds the allowed limits will be collected and stored in the aircraft cargo compartment. Excess baggage charge may be added if the combined weight or pieces with the bags already checked in exceeds your checked baggage allowance.

Counter check-in for Singapore Airlines flights
If you have a confirmed flight booking and are departing from Singapore Changi Airport, you can check in from 48 hours to 40 minutes before your flight departs.
The check-in counter opening hours are:
- Terminal 2: 04.30 to 22.00
- Terminal 3: 04.30 to 22.00

Online/Mobile check-in for Singapore Airlines flights
Check in on your computer or mobile device from 48 hours to 2 hours before your flight departs. You can also print your boarding pass or download it to your mobile device before going to the airport, if you’re departing from selected cities.

Beat the queue at the airport with convenient kiosk check-in services of Singapore Airlines, now available at:

At the airport, proceed directly to the Immigration counter if you don’t have bags to check in and if you don’t require travel document/visa/credit card verification at the check-in counter.
Kiosk check-in is available to everyone at these airports, unless:
- Your passport or visa is not machine-readable
- Your booking is not confirmed, or you’re on a waitlist
- You or the passenger you’re checking in is an unaccompanied minor
- You’ve booked an extra seat (for instance, for a musical instrument)
- You have any special assistance (for instance, you’re travelling with a pet, you require medical assistance, or you’ve requested for the meet-and-assist service)
If you’re returning within 48 hours of your departing flight, you can check in for both flights at the same time.
Your baggage will be checked in for your first flight. When arriving at the airport for your return flight, you should proceed to a check-in counter to drop off your baggage.

Singapore Airlines began with the incorporation of Malayan Airways Limited (MAL) on 1 May 1947. The airline's first flight was a chartered flight from the British Straits Settlement of Singapore to Kuala Lumpur on 2 April 1947 using an Airspeed Consul twin-engined aircraft.
Regular weekly scheduled flights from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang from 1 May 1947 with the same aircraft type. The airline continued to expand during the rest of the 1940s and 1950s, as other British Commonwealth airlines (such as BOAC and Qantas Empire Airways) provided technical assistance,.
When Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak formed the Federation of Malaysia in 1963, the airline's name was changed, from "Malayan Airways" to "Malaysian Airways". MAL also took over Borneo Airways. In 1966, following Singapore's separation from the federation, the airline's name was changed again, to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). The next year saw a rapid expansion in the airline's fleet and route, including the purchase of MSA's first Boeing aircraft, the Boeing 707s, as well the completion of a new high-rise headquarters in Singapore. Boeing 737s were added to the fleet soon after.
Almost overnight after the split from MSA in 1972 SIA expanded and adding cities in the Indian subcontinent and Asia, and adding Boeing 727s, Boeing 747s and Douglas DC-10s to its fleet.
In 1977 British Airways and Singapore Airlines shared a Concorde for flights between London and Singapore International Airport at Paya Lebar via Bahrain.
The 1980s saw expanded services to United States, Canada, and additional European cities with Madrid becoming the first Hispanic city to be served by SIA. Boeing 747-300s were leased and introduced into the SIA fleet in the early 1980s and named 'Big Tops'.
In 2004, SIA began non-stop trans-Pacific flights from Singapore to Los Angeles and Newark, utilising the Airbus A340-500. These flights marked the first non-stop air services between Singapore and the USA.
On 6 April 2012, Singapore Airlines phased out the last 747 in its fleet after 40 years of service. A final round-trip commemorative flight was operated from Singapore to Hong Kong with flight numbers SQ747 and SQ748 respectively. As well as an extended flying time, special meals, performances and inflight celebrations, passengers were given well stocked 747 goody bags.
