- Our carry-on baggage weight limits are changing. Please read below carefully to make sure your bags are the right size and weight.
- If you bring too many carry-on baggage items or if they exceed the weight or size limits at the departure gate, staff will insist that they be checked in. Charges may apply.
- Be sure to remove restricted items and check liquid, gel and aerosol limits.
Weight limits for Economy passengers
Flights departing before 25th November 2014
- Economy passengers may bring one main item of carry-on baggage and one other small item, with a total combined weight of up to 10kg.
- Passengers travelling domestically in Vietnam on Jetstar Pacific (BL) may bring up to 7kg.
Flights departing after 25th November 2014
- Economy passengers may bring one main item of carry-on baggage and one other small item, with a total combined weight of up to 7kg.
- Any passengers who made their flight booking before 28th October 2014 may bring up to 10kg (except passengers travelling domestically in Vietnam on Jetstar Pacific (BL), whose weight limit remains at 7kg).
- Passengers travelling on Jetstar Japan (GK) flights may bring up to 10kg.
*Except domestic Vietnam flights operated by Jetstar Pacific (BL) who have 7kg.
**Except for passengers who made their booking prior to 28th October 2014 or who are travelling on domestic Japan flights operated by Jetstar Japan (GK) who have 10kg. Domestic Vietnam flights operated by Jetstar Pacific (BL) remain at 7kg.
Weight limits for Business Class passengers
Flights departing before 25th November 2014
- All Business Class passengers may bring two main items of carry-on baggage, as long as each main item does not exceed 10kg, with a total combined carry-on baggage weight of up to 20kg.
Flights departing after 25th November 2014
- Business Class passengers may bring two main items of carry-on baggage, as long as each main item does not exceed 7kg, with a total combined carry-on baggage weight of up to 14kg.
- Any passengers who made their flight booking before 28th October 2014 may bring up to 20kg
*Except for passengers who made their booking before 28th October 2014 who have a combined total weight of 20kg.
Carry-on baggage size
You may bring one main item and one small item as carry on baggage within the weight limits above. These items must also meet the size restrictions below:

Any piece of baggage that doesn’t fit with the requirements above will need to be checked-in. Charges may apply.
Each piece must be able to fit under the seat in front of you, or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin of the aircraft.
The additional small item you bring on board could be:
- A handbag,
- Pocket book or purse,
- Approved duty free goods (international flights only)
Additional charges to check in baggage at the gate
Your baggage may be checked at the gate to ensure it is within our size and weight limits. If your carry on baggage exceeds size or weight restrictions at the boarding gate, the following additional charges apply as we will need to check in your baggage at the gate.
There are government limits to the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels that you can have in your carry-on baggage when you’re departing from an international terminal. Those limits also apply to domestic flights departing from an international terminal.

It’s your responsibility to understand these restrictions and put the items in your checked baggage. If restricted items are found they will be removed and not returned.
To ensure the comfort of all customers, Jetstar also prohibits the carriage and use of ‘knee defenders’ or any device which restricts the recline of another customer’s seat on board all Jetstar Group airlines.
If you’re travelling with hypodermic needles, please ensure you declare this at the screening point and, where possible, provide documentation or identification to confirm your medical condition.
Medication should have a professionally printed label that identifies the medication, or a manufacturer’s name or pharmaceutical label.
When you want to bring more than just your carry-on bags you’ll need to pay for checked baggage. Make sure your checked baggage is within size and weight limits so it’s safe to fly and understand how to avoid excess baggage charges.
To bring checked baggage all Economy Starter and Starter Plus passengers must purchase baggage allowance. You can purchase a 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg or 40kg baggage allowance. Baggage allowance weights apply per passenger, per flight.
Starter Max passengers are automatically given a 20kg checked baggage allowance and can purchase up to an additional 20kg.
Business and Business Max passengers are automatically given a 30kg checked baggage allowance and can purchase up to an additional 10kg.
Your baggage allowance is given by combined weight, not by number of bags. As long as your bags have a combined weight within your allowance, bring as many as you like. No single bag can weigh more than 32kg.
Charges at the airport
If you haven’t added checked baggage to your booking and arrive at the airport with checked baggage you’ll be charged for the first 15kg of baggage allowance per passenger and then for every additional kilo after that at the per kilo rate.
If you have added checked baggage to your booking but arrive with more than your allowance you’ll be charged for excess baggage. Excess baggage is charged per kilo.
We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to add excess baggage to your flight so it’s best to add baggage to your booking before you arrive. You’ll avoid the higher fees too.
If you have checked baggage in your booking but bring more than the allowance you will be charged a per kilo fee.
Connecting flights with a domestic and international leg will be charged at the international rate. Your per kilo fee will be applied to your whole journey.
The fees charged depend on your departure port. All charges are inclusive of GST/VAT and all amounts will be charged in the local currency of the applicable airport.
What to leave out of your checked baggage
Fragile items, computers, money, valuable documents, business documents, electronics, passports and precious metals and stones.
These items could become damaged if they’re included in your checked baggage and Jetstar will rely upon all available defences against any claim for damage, loss or destruction if this is the case.
Strollers, wheelchairs and bulky items
When you’re travelling with a young child or infant you can bring one of each of the following items per child or infant as checked baggage, free of excess baggage charges and regardless of fare:
- Stroller or pusher
- Porta cot and bedding
- Infant car seats
- Portable high chairs
Lock shut or secure strollers and porta cots to minimise risk of damage.
If you’re travelling with a wheelchair, Jetstar allows you to check-in your wheelchair or mobility aid required for your use free of charge, in addition to your checked baggage, provided that:
- Each piece does not exceed 32kg, except mobility equipment that can travel in the upright position in the free wheel mode (for example an electric wheelchair);
- Items above 32kg which cannot travel in the upright position in free wheel mode must be carried as freight at standard freight rates;
- The equipment must be for your own use and adhere to Jetstar’s aircraft wheelchair dimensions; and
- Only one motorised/electric mobility aid may be checked-in as part of this allowance.

Jetstar Japan is a low fares airline that has been flying domestically within Japan from July 2012 to Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Okinawa.
Short-haul international flights are expected to start during 2013 subject to regulatory approval. The airline will initially have a fleet of three new Airbus A320s configured for 180 passengers, growing to 24 aircraft within three years. Jetstar Japan is led by Chief Executive Officer, Miyuki Suzuki.
